Use an iPad mini 2 or iPad mini 3 as a second monitor

Last updated: 2026-11-06

The iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3 can't update to iOS 13, so Sidecar isn't available. ZiPad supports both: they have the same A7 chip and 2048×1536 resolution as the iPad Air 1 we test on. We haven't tested ZiPad on a real iPad mini 2 or mini 3 yet, so try the free trial before you buy.

What's different on the smaller screen

  • The screen is 7.9 inches instead of the iPad Air 1's 9.7 inches, with the same 2048×1536 pixels, so everything looks smaller.
  • On a Mac, click the ZiPad icon in the menu bar > Resolution > Looks like 1024×768 for the largest text. Larger options fit more on the screen but make text smaller.
  • When it creates the extended screen on a Mac, ZiPad tells macOS the mini's real screen size.

Setup

It's the same as on the iPad Air 1, so follow the iPad Air 1 guide. Pair once by cable, then you can switch to Wi-Fi.

Tell us how it went
